Excellent points. Tatum, right now, is still in Kobe-mode, meaning he likes to attempt difficult shots and show that he can make them. But look at KD — he has Thompson on him, and instead of using shake and bake moves, he simply drives and when Thompson is back peddling, KD pulls up for an wasy midrange.
I want to see Tatum score a bunch from easier plays like that.
And for the part about our bench depth, just like our two best players are young, so is our bench. In time, I have confidence that Grant and Pritchard and Nesmith and Romeo are going to be valuable contributors for us (RWill, I’m beginning to wonder). It’s going to take time though.
And that’s the delicate balance of this team — we’re a young team with a promising future that is still a couple of years away. But we are competitive in the meantime.

I also agree that as constituted we are not a serious contender. But, we do have a very big chip to play in that $28 million trade exception, which could and should bring a very good player. If Danny can use that wisely, and Kemba is healthy, we have a shot. One giant BUT, however. Tatum seems to have more trouble creating good shots for himself than anyone I would consider a superstar. Fancy dribbling leading to stepbacks or sidesteps resulting in a 3 attempt is impressive when they go in, but I don't know I want to rely on that. IMO Brown consistently takes better shots than Tatum. Durant doing a good defensive job on Tatum last night. Did this cause Tatum to shy away? Defeat him? Tatum needs to learn from this. If he wants to be great, he has to overcome the greats. m.youtube.com/watch?v=T1rTl9Ilu_Y
