What a difference in tempo tonight with the return of Tony Allen. It wasn't as if he single-handedly made the difference, but he was definitely a big part of it.
For a lot of the time he was on the court, the tempo was quick and exciting. It was really energized when the lineup was Jefferson, Allen, Orien, Banks, and Ricky.
Tony Allen and Orien Greene make a terrific combo. Both of them click well together. Tony is the type of player whose motor keeps moving, and Orien is the type of PG who threads the needle to open players. Both are athletic and silky smooth and they both know how to play.
Wow, they had the crowd buzzing tonight. I can't wait to see more from them. What a difference from the slow down/methodical way of basketball we were playing before.

In Allen's second game back (against the Wiz), the tempo of the game totally destroyed Allen's effectiveness. The guys were content to just play halfcourt, slow down basketball, and I think that's a big reason why coudn't get over the hump.
The team needs to be more uptempo, and we have the players to be uptempo. Ricky, Tony, Marcus, Orien, Jefferson, Delonte, and Reed are uptempo guys who will run at any opportunity. But unfortunately, Pierce, Blount, and Raef aren't, and Doc seems to cater around their srengths.
