Awesome, FL12. I couldn't watch the game tonight so I had to rely on your play by play, and as usual, I don't feel like I missed a beat. 24 TO's are atrocious--and this after dedicating ourselves to protecting the ball. But, I guess to be fair, the Bobcats are a good team at causing TO's, and we may have been pressing too much to not turn the ball over (if that makes sense). Glad we got the win, but its disappointing that it came at the expense of developmental time for Jefferson and Perkins. Thanks Darrenmatt. Blount was once again the main culpret with 5 TO's. And PP with 4 but in all fairness to PP a couple were called when he went into the lane and got hacked and they called it a turnover instead of a foul. Tommy was almost losing it on a few of those. Blount had 2 3 second calls and a defensive 3 second call and that is a matter of focus. Not only did it come at the expense of the development of Perk and Al, I really think we would have done better with them in there. We were out rebounded on the offensive glass 17-5... If we could have gotten a few more offensive rebounds, we may have won it going away. Perk and Al are outr 2 best rebounders. Doc complains about the rebounds and doesn't play our best rebounders. The guy just isn't right!!! Glad to get the win in spite of it all.

There must be something going on with Perkins and Doc. I can't tell by Perkins' facial reaction, because he fails to make any (if someone's hammering his toes, you wouldn't be able to tell). But how in the world has Perk fallen so far off the priority list? Going from a guy who once pulled down 19 rebounds to a guy who only gets 5 minutes a game is alarming.

I am puzzled as well. A writer on the Boston Globe I believe made a good point in that the improvement in West's play as of late probably has a lot to do with all the 30 minute games he has had this year. So why doesn't Doc recognize that and give Jefferson and Perkins steady minutes? It seems to me that on a regular basis, if Blount and LaFrentz get most of the minutes, we give up a lot of offensive rebounds. Tonight we almost lost to an injury-depleted bad team because (a) turnovers and (b) we gave up 17 offensive rebounds (and only had 5 ourselves).
Don't get me wrong, I was happy to see that we won, but even the first line of the game summary at yahoo sports was that we needed to shoot well to overcome our sloppy play. So while it is nice to win, I'm not sure this win inspires much confidence. And since IMO developing our young talent should be a priority this year, I can't see why Jefferson was held back to only 18 minutes and why Perkins is apparently in the dog house.

Hey, isn't this exactly the thing I've been harping on for the last week? There's no way young players will develop into their potential playing just 10 - 15 minutes a game. Delonte is living proof that a young player with talent has a real good chance of making good on his talents with a lot of playing time.
Jefferson and Perkins need to get a lot of playing time. Forget about Blount and Raef--there's a good chance that they won't be a part of our future.
And down the line, Gerald Green is going to need big time minutes as well.

I didn't know you wrote for the Globe! ha ha ha
You did make this very point and I couldn't agree with you more. It's why I gave you a karma point tonight.

But how in the world has Perk fallen so far off the priority list? Going from a guy who once pulled down 19 rebounds to a guy who only gets 5 minutes a game is alarming. It is even more puzzling when you watch Perk play those 5 minutes because he is doing good things. In the 5 minutes he played in the last game he had 5 rebounds and 4 points an assist and no fouls and no turnovers. Last night in his 3 minutes he had 1 rebound and 1 assist and was playing defense and looked good. He does good things. He isn't like Blount who gets 2 3 second calls in his first 5 minutes. And it isn't like Blount is playing great defense or anything to earn playing time as his man was blowing by him at every opportunity. I have 3 possible reasones... 1. Doc really is a complete idiot and has no clue how to coach.... 2. He values what little offense Blount gives over rebounding and defense (see #1) or 3.Blount and Raef are being showcased for a trade. Perk amazingly has developed without getting much playing time over 3 years, as has Al. But they are both at a point where they need the steady playing time to take that next step from good to very good or great.

I only watched parts of the game because I was more interested in the Rose Bowl. But I did see everything I had to in NBA league pass. We won a game against Charlotte that quite frankly we should have been blown out in embarrassing fashion. The Celtics were thoroughly horrible at turnovers, rebounding, and defense. In fact, I thought they were the worst team that played last night. At their current productivity in defense and rebounding, this team will lose 55 games and finish in the cellar of the Titanic Division. Big changes are needed with this team and it starts with the coaching staff. Heck, the whole operation may need to turn over again.

Kind of still getting back to "normal," so not posting. Keeping jup with the boxes is about it.
I do not understand how the team, which is getting good numbers regularly on assists, can be a bad on turnovers. Both are based mainly on passing.
So far I'm mildly disappionted in the performances of the kids. West is the only one who may be kind of playing at a somewhat satisfactory level. Although Reed may be beginning to do so.
I'm h aving questions about Doc's coaching.
Rebounding and turnovers---2 big problems last year---don't look to be any better.

Ferbo, good to hear from you, and I hope you get back to normal (ummm..... that's sounded a bit weird).
Our turnovers are a concern, especially when you take into account that only half of it is forced. A lot of times, we shoot ourselves in the foot by turning the ball over without the defense causing any problems. Blount's stone hands leads to at least one turnover a game. Pierce and Ricky losing control of the ball when they dribble too much also causes some unforced TO's. And bad decisions also are the culprits.
Our players need to be smarter and protect the ball. Doc says it, and so do the players, but they still haven't 'done' it.
