Didn’t pay attention to him at LSU (I’m not a big fan of small PG’s usually), and on draft day, I wasn’t thrilled about picking him. But since then my mind has changed, as I watched and understood more about Waters’ game. He really plays at his pace, and is pretty good at changing pace and keeping defenders guessing. Here’s his most recent game m.youtube.com/watch?v=84IG-YOHiFsTell me you don’t see some Steve Nash there ‼️

His game is like mirrored from Irving. Ex: he has very good handle, changes pace, and has trick shots.

Irving has a gift for making difficult shots, especially in the paint, using all kinds of crazy spins. I think Waters creates space for himself better by using change of pace and direction. I think Waters also sees the court better and is a better passer. I just don't know how much his relative lack of height will hurt him on D.

It would seem to me that Waters’ defense is better than IT’s was. Tremont applies more ball pressure, is better at stealing / stripping balls, and darts into the passing lanes more frequently.

Agreed. His ball pressure is outstanding. I worry about post-ups and getting hurt on the defensive boards against bigger PGs. I think he could still be effective though coming off the bench.

If Brad could make it work with IT, and even Kyrie, I’m sure he can do it with Tremont (though of course, Tremont is not a bonafide starter like they are, so he’ll most likely be a backup if anything).

I hope he gets a chance. I love watching this kid play. Excellent ball handler, quick and accurate shooter from deep, and great vision.

I thought the kid was great tonight in his first NBA game. He was obviously over-amped for the first couple of minutes, but once he settled in he showed why Tommy and lots of us love him. I don't know how the numbers would work, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the Celtics full time before the season is out.

Looked nothing like a rookie playing in his first NBA game. Could this young one already be ready for consistent minutes? Wanamaker had been doing a good job, but Tremont brings more energy and creativity to the second unit.

I was excited to see a little Rondo in him with the trickery around the basket and on his drives. Luckily, he doesn't come with the Rondo shooting.
Wanamaker puts me to sleep out there, but I do understand the value in playing right...however, our bench needs a guy like Waters because we don't seem to have any sparks out there with Edwards playing tentative. Though I did enjoy seeing the Waters/Edwards lineup! Taking "small" ball to the extreme.

They need to get him full-time on the NBA roster. Unfortunately, probably won't happen until next year same with Tacko unless players get cut.

Waters scored 33 in his first game back with the Red Claws. Ball didn't play. Romeo is supposed to be back Friday.

Being short, I’m sure Tremont has been counted out for most of his basketball life, and has always had to prove he can play this game. And I don’t want to be another doubter in this kid’s way. He could very well top out (best case scenario) as a career backup, but he’s got an outside shot at being a solid starter on a team like ours with a coach like Brad.
Question, what separates a 5’8” Isaiah Thomas from a 5’11” Tremont Waters? If IT can make it in the NBA (as did Spud Webb, Earl Boykins and Nate Robinson), what would Tremont have to do to make it?

I watched some of the Red Claws game tonight and his line of 10 assists and 4 TOs kind of tells it all. He sees the court really well and delivers some amazing passes - making everyone around him better. But he needs to cut down on the TOs, some of which were unforced and ugly. To make it in the NBA he's going to have to take care of the ball. I also think his shot selection needs work. Sometimes he launches 3s awfully early in the possession. btw Danny was up here watching the game with the whole Celtics staff and Poirier played for the Red Claws.
