Flip and Kevin were genuine friends in Minnesota and Kevin still was able to fire Flip when he wasn't getting the job done. Flip is a good coach but the players weren't responding to him or to his system and so a change was needed. Sometimes players just lose respect for a coach for whatever reason and a change is needed. Hopefully Ainge will see that if this team, with all the talent and potential, still keeps floundering and Doc still insists on sitting the kids and playing the vets into the ground, Ainge can lift his professionalism above the friendship and make a move that is needed.

Could we see Doc getting fired this year if we end up being a lottery team?

I don't think so. I think Ainge will give Doc more of a leash than that. I do think that if Ainge has any gripes, its about not giving the young kids more developmental time. He said it himself that this year is about developing players and the win/loss record is not as important. So far, Rivers has done a relatively poor job about giving the young kids the opportunity to learn the ropes.
But I"m sure Ainge won't yank the carpet out from under Rivers after only 2 years. Rivers wasn't given a fair deal when he came here. He inherited a team that gets younger every year. But he does have to watch out for losing the loyalty of his players. That's something that Rivers must be keenly aware of.
