This seems to be another year where there is a consensus [HASH]1 pick and maybe a couple more guys in the next tier. If we wind up with the [HASH]9 pick (Memphis), the [HASH]12-14 (Sacro), the [HASH]19 (Clippers) and our own [HASH]24 or so, would you give them all up to move up into the top 3? And if you would, do you think anyone would be tempted? I think it's either something like this or most of the picks go in a big play for Anthony Davis. I definitely don't believe we'll have 4 first round picks on our roster next year. Hard to think we can fit 4 draft picks onto the team, seeing how tight our roster already is. But packaging multiple picks for a higher pick, the way it is done in football, doesn’t really happen in basketball. Like, if we had the 3rd pick, you could not entice to trade it away for the 8th, 14th, 18th and 22nd.

I was just watching Carsen Edwards highlights from his 42 pt performance against Virginia. Pretty impressive. Apparently the Celtics were one of the teams he worked out for last year before deciding to return to school for another year. He's been projected as an early second rounder, which doesn't really fit where our picks are likely to be, but I liked what I saw. How high might Danny be willing to draft him?

Danny is not hesitant to draft shorter players, so Carsen is a possibility. I could see him going late first round. Carsen has performed exceptionally well in a major conference, so there’s good data on him.

I was imagining him on our second unit in an IT type role. I'm getting tired of "athletes" who have underdeveloped basketball skills. It might be nice to have a clutch shooter on the bench. Same size as the Microwave, Vinnie Johnson.

I am hoping Danny punts away 2 of the draft selections down the road.

Same size as the Microwave, Vinnie Johnson. Yes, we need more basketball players — guys who know the game and are able to execute plays. That’s what’s special about Zion. He knows the game, knows what to do on the court, and is a tremendous athlete. Ans that’s RJ lacks—feel for what to do with the ball. I’ll look more into Carsen Edwards and give my thoughts.

I am hoping Danny punts away 2 of the draft selections down the road. Someone I read suggested that this would be a perfect year for a "draft and stash" foreign player - IF we keep all our picks. Maybe two.

What stands out about Carsen is how quick and darty he is. He's a bit out of control, but that's what makes him hard to guard. Really good at the catch-and-shoot, and has a quick trigger. I went back and looked at videos of Shabbaz Napier, who I kind of liken Carsen Edwards to, and found that Napier doesn't elevate on his shots the way Carsen does, and Napier's shot mechanics aren't as quick either, nor is he as quick. This leads me to think Carsen can be a better NBA player than Napier (in the right situation). Carsen will need to change his role and mentality, as he will not be the big man on campus in the pros. I think a safe estimation is a role like Shane Larkin's for us last year. A small guard who comes in and changes the tempo with his energy and speed.

Maybe two. I think Danny did that once back in 2016, with Yabu and Zizic. I still think they are two years away from being two years away.

Yabu is my dark, dark, dark horse. He's got game and feel. Maybe it's his defense that's keeping him from getting playing time. But if it ever clicks for him, I think he can be a contributor, like in the top 8 rotation.
If we're going draft-and-stash, I'd take a chance early on Goga Bitadze.

4 or so games to go and four teams, including Memphis are within 1/2 game of each other for the 6, 7, 8 and 9 spots in the West. We still have a chance to get the Grizz pick (Top 8 protected) and get a top 10 pick. Who's good at [HASH]9 or so?

Hard to say, being 2 1/2 months out, and before the draft combine (where a good showing can propel a prospect from a second rounder to a late first, and a late 1st rounder into the late lottery). But the consensus seems to be these players going top 9 Zion Williamson RJ Barrett Ja Morant Cam Reddish Jarrett Culver DeAndre Hunger Keldon Johnson **on the bubble: Rui Hachimura, Brandon Clakre, Bol Bol, Sekou Doumbouya

So this thing is mostly in focus now, right?

Yeah, pretty much. Unless the lottery balls change things up, we're getting Sacramento's pick, which will be between 12 - 14 (absolute best case scenario is the lottery balls give them the [HASH]2).
We're not getting Memphis' pick this year, unless 2 teams leap frog over them via the lottery balls, and pushes Memphis back to the 9th slot.
And we're getting 2 picks in the 18 - 22 slots (the Clippers' and our own).

I've been rooting all year for Memphis to suck just enough for us to get a Top 10 pick, but apparently Danny would prefer to not get the pick this year and roll it over to a Top 6 protected pick next year, or even better, an unprotected pick in 2021. It's always a crapshoot though. Sometimes teams stink year after year in spite of high picks (Phoenix) and sometimes they get better faster than you anticipate (Sacro).
Overall I think I want someone who can step in and contribute quickly, not a multiyear project guy. With one of our later picks I'm seeing a guy like Carsen Edwards on our second unit with GH operating as point forward.
