Indiana ran into a determined Boston team that wanted to exact some revenge for the Game 7 debacle last year. Of course Indiana has their own issues with Ron Artest, NBA's Terrell Owens. Back to the 2nd half that I watched due to not being able to get off work (I hate customer support who dump their problems on me just before I go home, especially on a Celtics game night). The Celtics inherited a 16 point lead earned on by all accounts read and listened to on great defensive energy. The Celtics opened the 2nd half flat but Indiana could not take full advantage and erase the entire deficit. Mark Blount and Pierce both made baskets and the D stayed strong as the Celtics slowly reconstructed the double digit lead. The kids came in and notably Orien Greene made hustle plays that earned Tommies. Crowd seemed flat though like it is the pre-Christmas blues or it is the Wednesday between Patriot games. Anyway Pierce, Raef, Blount, West, and RD kept the defensive chemistry going and made it a very successful night for the Celtics and built on their last three games of the road trip. Hopefully the work load will decrease and I can spend more time talking to you Greeniax!!! B C P

Couple of things to say about this game:
-Wonderful win. Feels good to control the whole game and get Indiana out of their game plan. We definitely seemed like the better team tonight.
-Don't give Blount too much credit for his performance tonight. He's fools gold. He only plays hard when he scores. If he doesn't get the ball in the early parts of the game, he'll play bad the rest of the game.
-Perkins is really solidifying our rebounding. When he's on the court, I feel good about our chances of securing missed shots. 8 rebounds in only 20 minutes tonight (plus 2 blocks).
-Jefferson should start in place of Blount. Play Perk and Jefferson together and let them grow into their roles.
-Because our system is a free flowing offense where the open man takes the shot, Jefferson doesn't get many chances to put up big scoring nights consecutively. After his 21 pt effort last saturday, I was hoping to see another big scoring game. And though he started off pretty strong when he came in off the bench, we didn't go to him nearly enough to get him into a groove.
-Pierce was forcing things quite a bit tonight.
-Instead of setting up Pierce and Ricky, we are asking them to create their own shots. This isn't how we need to play. Pierce is a strong individual scorer, but it'll make life a lot more easier for him, as well as more beneficial for our offense, if we set him up for shots.

Almost a perfect night for us. We win, NY and NJ lose at home, Toronto loses; if only Atlanta would have pulled the upset (they were tied going into the fourth at Philly and lost by only 5) it would have been perfect. But no complaints -- nice defensive effort. And looks like a solid effort by O. Greene.

Yeah, Orien is looking better. Not trying to force things, or impress Doc as much as he was a week ago. And I tell you, his passes are dazzling. The other game, he had an incredible pass to Jefferson. There was a long rebound that Gomes was able to track down and Orien got himself open so that Gomes could get rid of the ball before falling out of bounds. As the ball was on its way to Orien, Devin Harris, who was the defender nearest to Jefferson, dashed over to cover Orien. And as any good big man knows, when you are open, you cut to the basket, and that's exactly what Jefferson did. And like any good PG will do, Orien fired a quick pass right to Jefferson and he dunked that ball emphatically. Doesn't sound so impressive, but when you see in it real time, you'll be amazed at how quick the decision needed to be made to spot an open Jefferson and how quickly the ball went from Orien's hands into Big Al's hands. It was like a second basemen turning the double play--that's how quickly Orien transfered the catch into a pass. His decision making is very good and his passes are very exact.
Tonight, he had another amazing pass to Gomes, who was roaming under the basket. It was another quick decision and a quick pass that led to a score (Gomes made a difficult bucket as he got fouled on the shot).
Orien has the ability to see things instantly and make strong, accurate passes in a blink of an eye. No other PG on our team can do this. He's also the best finisher at the basket among PG's (including Marcus Banks). He's strong and skilled and he's got amazing hangtime.
He showed life on his jumper tonight and I hope this is a sign of progress.

Is anyone seeing anything a bout how Perk is playing? He's getting some RBs; not scoring much. Wonder about his D.

Perk has been playing very well. he is not looking for his shot other than to try to put back when he gets an O rebound near the rim. He is playing good D and bothers a lot of shots.

Perk, nor Jefferson, get the ball in the post enough to get into a groove. Its like giving a good shooter only 3 touches all game and expecting him to drain it everytime he receives a pass.
