I keep thinking about our current roster, and I really want to believe it is good enough to compete against the best. But there's a gnawing going on in the back of my head, setting in some doubts. I try to "homer" it out of me, but it takes a lot of convincing.
I said that this team CAN win a championship this year, but a lot of things HAVE to go right for that to happen. Like I stated earlier, Morris and Baynes have to play really well. Jaylen, Tatum, Rozier, Smart all have to play better than expected. Theis, Yabusele and Ojeleye have to contribute, etc.
A lot of things have to go right, but we just don't know if it will.
I mean, think about this -- which team would win a 7 game series?

Based on pure talent, it would be this year's (probable) starting 5. But we don't know if Morris will make a seamless transition. We don't know if Jaylen is ready for the next step. We don't know if Kyrie will fully buy into the team first concept. But we do know that last year's team won 53 games, earned the Eastern Conference title, and made it to the ECF.
I would feel better if we had more proven and productive vets filling in the 4 - 7 roster spots. Right now, Marcus Morris would probably be our 4th best player. Ideally, we'd have 2 or 3 guys better than him RIGHT now, making him our 6th best player.
But we'll see.
