That explains a lot. Thanks, FL. So we shouldn't be expecting a game changer. Baynes is a guy who will contribute a sliver in the flow of the game. Not a whole lot, but enough to be a net positive.

Again, I think an underappreciated (and unnoticed) benefit of signing Baynes is what Zizc, Yabusele and Semi can learn from him. Baynes is said to be good at positioning himself early on defense and thinking ahead of the play. That's what the young guys need to learn to do, cause they're not shot blockers and shot erasers.

Baynes said a major factor in choosing to sign with BOS (and not stay with DET) is more playing time. That must have been what Ainge and Brad sold him on -- more minutes and a bigger role.
Amir Johnson averaged 20 mpg in a defensive role. Baynes averaged 15 mpg with DET in a similar role. Maybe Baynes is Amir's replacement.
