Last summer, there were talks with us and the Kings working out a trade that would send Rondo to Sacramento, and we would receive Isaiah Thomas, Ben McLemore, their high draft pick, and I forget what else.
But that fell through because Rondo said he would not sign an extension with them.
Well, guess Rondo had a change of heart (or lack of options) and now he's decided to sign with Sacramento.
Had we made that trade last summer, and gotten their 8th pick (which netted them Nik Stauskas, but we could have used it on McDermott or Dario Saric, etc), we would have had Isaiah Thomas (who we wound up getting anyways), and McLemore.
But on the flipside, by trading Rondo to the Mavericks instead, we ended up getting Jae Crowder.
Oh well, funny how things work out.

I thought the same thing when I heard he was signing with Sacto.

Yep. Pretty Ironic that now he is dependent on the Kings to help rebuild his reputation. But he still didn't commit to them long term. Just one year. Still no guarantee he stays or even gets back to the player he once was.

He cost us and he cost himself.

Ugh, thanks for bringing this up, DM! Our future would be a lot brighter if Rondo would've accepted that trade to Sacto. Who knows that the trade would've been for, but I can't imagine it would've been less than what we took from Dallas (which, upon retrospect, was a darn good deal for Boston). But getting a good young guard and Sacto's pick in the 2015 draft would've been huge. Here's hoping that Dallas' pick ends up in the 8-12 rang this year.

But all in all, we ended up with Jae Crowder, who I like a lot, and wound up getting Isaiah Thomas in a roundabout way. We'll have to see what Ainge does with the 12.9 million TPE he got for Rondo.

IIRC we got IT2 with the goodies we got in that trade from Cleveland (Marcus Thornton, CLE 2016 1st). We got that stuff from CLE when we used the Paul Pierce TPE to pick the last year of Thornton's contract. From the Rondo trade we still have Crowder, DAL 2016 1st and 2nd round picks, and MIN 2016 1st (got from PHX in exchange for Brandon Wright, who was part of the Rondo deal).

These are good points. If we had had Ben McLemore maybe we wouldn't have gone to get IT2, which is what really changed things

Should be interesting to see how long Karl, and Rondo get along together.

Should be interesting to see how long Karl, and Rondo get along together. Rondo and Cousins could make quite a combination of personalities. At least things won't be boring in Sacramento.

SAC is like the modern day version of NYN (aka when Isiah Thomas was NYN GM). Lots of names, great on paper, poor court performance.
