In a way, we control our own playoff destiny. If we win our final 2 games, we guarantee make the playoffs, regardless of what the Nets and Pacers do (the 2 teams who are hot on our trail).
Currently, we are in 7th, with a 0.5 game lead over the 8th place Nets, and 1.0 game lead over the Pacers (who are just 0.5 games out of the playoff picture).
Our final 2 games are against the Raptors on Tuesday and the Bucks on Wednesday. Both are still fighting to lock down their playoff spot, so I imagine they're playing to win, unlike the Cavs who we've faced the past 2 games.

Bucks locked in the 6th spot with their win over the Nets yesterday so they may sit guys for the last game. Raptors though I think are still fighting for position and their coach has already said that he doesn't feel they can afford to rest players. He may be just posturing but, especially after the Celtics beat them on the buzzer beater in the last game, they will definitely be playing to win. But, the Celtics beat them in the last game and can beat them again if they play hard and play together.

I was hoping that we wouldn't make the playoffs this year (wanted a better pick), but now that we are in I do admit it will be fun to watch some Celtics playoff basketball. I can't see them advancing out of the first, but lets hope they can make the Cavs work for it. Hopefully they can bring back ghosts of that plucky 1994-95 squad. They had a losing record but they make Orlando work to advance.

I agree Fresh. I don't think (and I could be wrong) we're going to win the championship this year, so I was hoping for a good draft spot.
But this season turned out better than expected, which has its benefit as well. Free agents could view us as an up and coming team, and making the playoffs could help draw interest.
Sure we are talking about the weak eastern conference, but we've been competitive in most of our games, and we've definitely finished the season on a very good note -- in spite of trading away Rajon and Green, and losing a big contributor in Sullinger.

Listening to Danny on WEEI, it sounds like he is ok with the Celtics making the playoffs. He was talking about how when you are in the lottery and your players don't compete, other teams don't value them. It sounded like he's more interested in making a splash in the trade and free agent market than in the draft.

For sure. One of the things many analysts were saying about our team is what an outstanding young coach Brad Stevens is, and how good it is to see a young team fight so hard every game and not give up.
You don't hear them saying this about the 76ers.

Danny gambled on the right horse/coach, and that 6-year contract is looking like a steal right now.

I'd really like to see the core of this group grow together with Brad. I have a feeling that Danny is going to try to trade them off for stars but I'd love to see them have a chance together for a whole season as Celtics and with the coach growing along with them.

The issue with growing a young team together gets divivded when contracts are up. The new CBA leveled the field a bit with the repeater tax.

Yeah, they really grow on you, this team. But we do need upgrade in talent. As much as I like nice guy Zeller, we need a more physical presence who can secure rebounds and alter shots. And by oh boy do we need a crunch time scorer!
