The Celtics have agreed to trade Rondo and Dwight Powell to the Mavs for Brandon Wright, Jae Crowder, Jameer Nelson, a 2015 first round pick, and a future 2nd round pick, along with a $13 million trade exception.
Not sure about anyone else, but I don't like it. Maybe after it sets in, but for now, I really don't like it.
Oh, and they released Vitor Favarani too.

You would think a diehard Celtics fan would be highly emotional after the Rondo trade. But I feel very little emotion about Rondo no longer being a Celtic. Its not whether I liked him or not, but rather this was expected. Rajon could have been a lifelong Celtic, but every year I'd be wondering if this would be the year he's gone.
So he's gone now, and its time to move on.
I haven't been keeping up with sports for many months now, so I don't know what's happening, even with the Celtics. But what I'll speculate is Rondo hasn't been a good fit for Brad Stevens.
What I feel coach Brad needs for his system are intelligent, multi-skilled, hard working, and disciplined players who respect the authority of the coach. Kind of the college vibe. Rondo is not that type. And being the captain of the team, it wasn't a good situation for him and Brad.
Guys like Smart, Sullinger, Olynyk, and Pressey have that college-like vibe about them. They listen to coach, they do what they are asked, they aren't above the team, they play hard and give themselves up. That's college ball.
Honestly, that's what I believe Ainge is constructing here. He brought in a young, bright and successful college coach who works well with young players (Brad Stevens) and amassed tons of future draft picks so that every year we're going to be stocked with fresh college players. With a strong disciplined system in place, we'll need smart, disciplined and skilled players to make it work. And that's what Ainge's job will be -- draft intelligent, skilled and disciplined players for Coach Brad.
What a genius he'll be if it works. He'll be utilizing the draft, and the D-League, to provide constant influx of cheap players who fit in with Brad's system. No longer spending max money on one superstar and killing the rest of the cap on additional stars and role players. But running a successful team using good players who fit the mold.

I agree with Roadrunner... It's great to see you posting. I sure have missed your posts. I think you may be on to something. I don't think Rondo was a great fit for Stevens' system and it was only a matter of time until this trade happened. I think the feeling around the Celtics fans is like the Jim Jones syndrome. He did suicide drills with the koolaid with his followers every day so after a while they got so used to it, it was no big thing. Then one day there really was poison in the koolaid.
It was that way with Rondo. There were so many rumors and almost trades etc over the past few years that we just got used to it and finally there really was a Rondo trade and we were ready for it and it was no big deal. But I really think you are on to something about the way Danny is building with Stevens as coach and the college style system. Whether they win or lose, it's going to be fun to watch.

Thanks, RR. Great to see you guys too.
Ainge is a trend setter, and he thinks outside the box. With all these massive contracts being handed out and teams having a hard time staying under the cap, Ainge could be paving the road for a new and creative way of building a successful team without paying the heavy fines.
That's the only conclusion I can see with all the draft picks he's accumulating and with the hiring of Brad Stevens.

That's the only conclusion I can see with all the draft picks he's accumulating and with the hiring of Brad Stevens. I don't think Danny will use all of these picks. At some point when we are close enough to become a title contender again, some of these draft picks and the 13M trade excecpton that was part of the Rondo deal will be used to get the next group of guys that will put the C's over the top much like what he did when he traded for Ray and KG. We all knew this was coming, but it also offically marks the end of the past era as Rondo was all that was left. Which is sad, but it had to be done at some point. But I like the deal for both teams, and I wish Rondo nothing but the best as he will now be on a title contending team again. But it won't be as bad as seeing Paul in a Wizards uniform. That just doesn't look right at all. I would also like to wish everyone one here a great holiday and a happy new year!

Same feeling about [HASH]9 DM. If he could hit his free-throws I might feel different.
Same to you on the holidays afceltic! And ditto to everyone else.
