Some people would call it a mental disorder, I would say he's just really smart. When we had pierce, kg and ray there were some wasted opportunities maybe but I think he rode that as long as he could. I still think there is no rebuild. He has been building all along. I think he outworks other gm's but he also has a very clear picture of what he's trying to do and hte type of players that fit. The way he has drafted and made moves have been that.
He traded let the wheels fall off the big 3 at the right time. He’s drafted 3 of our current starters drafting later and in drafts and all these guys have ended up better than most pundits expected. He traded for Jeff Green and kept Rondo. HE’s also drafted Smart, signed turner, Pressey, drafted James Young who all fit this team and give us a lot of flexibility. He hasn’t made a bad pick or move. We are loaded with draft picks and have a nice young core here and kept our best player. It’s not that teams don’t want these guys it’s that the Celtics dictate who they are going to trade and for what.
He also got Thornton and zeller for basically nothing when we needed a center and an additional scoring option.
He also got Bass. Has kept Bass and has our roster set up with good contracts at players with talent and good age. We've gotten younger. We are one of the youngest teams in the nba as it stands. he's not done either. The process continues.
He also let the wheels fall off with Doc Rivers. Hired a young coach who not many saw. I don't think there was anything wrong with Doc overly or Ray or KG or Pierce. I just think it was the process of it.
DA is a very bright GM. Some GM's draft up high in the draft and build that way after years of being really bad. DA didn't want that. He's done something else and tried to keep things more fluid. Every year he just tries to do the right thing depending on the situation and ultimately that's going to pay off.
I liek what DA does because as a fan I try myself to find the right solution with the future in mind in regard to the celtics depending on the situation at hand. I don't think he goes outside of that much.
There is no set plan but his vision is ultimately very clear. I think DA just outworks everyone else and does it his way with respect to a lot of different things.
The weird thing is if anything he's actually very patient. I also think he just has an eye for the players he wants when he sees them. Not every player is cut out to be a celtic. I think he's realistic but he's also idealistic that way which is a great thing. Good GM's typically seem to find those guys somehow. DA's drafts have been boom or bust that way. It's either drafting a guy like Sully or Jr Giddens. There haven't been a whole lot of guys I'd guess should be on a different team.
