1. Smart proves he is the man. He's still 20 years old. I'd like to see him prove it. He still has to prove it though. He's still young and playing behind Rondo is good for him regardless. I don't question whether Smart can be that guy so much. It's whether he will and how we go about it. I'm not that fond of just handing it to him.
2. Rondo wants a lot of money. With a young team and if we want to develop them and position ourselves to build with guys like Smart and Sully and add other players down the line, trading Rondo would make a lot of sense
3. Rondo's style of play may not fit with what the Celtics are trying to do. He controls the ball and it's his team whether we like it or not. I'm not saying that's a bad thing either. Rondo is a really good distributer and go between.
4. Rondo proves he's healthy and a team comes to us with an offer they are ready to. Sometimes the story isn't what people think it is in that regard. Rondo could get hurt but the Celtics owe it to themselves and other teams to show he is fully healed. There is no rush in that regard. These guys have job security and can let it play out.
5. Rondo just doesn't fit the culture of this team or the direction. I think that's probably the biggest one next to the money stuff.
Pretty straightforward. I don't think the reasons to deal him are anything other than that overly. It doesn't mean I would trade him either. There are still reasons to let it play out and I don't think the Celtics feel pressured in that regard. If Rondo suffers another injury that would be bad but he's still pretty young. His contract is up anyways so there is no reason for the Celtics to sign him to a max deal right now in that regard.
I'm still not sure it's about waiting for the right deal so much as it's about the timing of it or vice versa. Either way there is really no reason other than to let it play out.
