Phil Jackson is already playing hardball with Melo. this is from espn but he said
1. He'd like to see Anthony take less than maximum money to re-sign with the Knicks.
2. He's not losing any sleep over the idea that the Knicks may lose Anthony to another suitor this summer.
He also tweeted that he hopes Melo stays true to his word, and takes less money because that's the first step towards team play. I don't know about criticizing a player publicly for how much money he is making. The celtics never do this. Then he goes on to say he's not losing any sleep that the knicks may lose him. So you want him to take less money but don't value him? this is phil playing psychological games to me and being his snake self.
I don't know if i want to give phil the keys to a good team and draft picks but if we get a young star this draft seems to me like phil might be more inclined to build around cheaper younger talent. That could bite us in the butt down the road. But I'm also not that impressed with this draft class where I see anyone being better than Carmelo anthony. I'm not a huge melo fan but I kind of could see where he's coming from. Melo to me wants to win a championship. I think he has that desire in him. I might nto like everything he does butI think he is competitive. This may just be jacksons way of getting to him to lower his contract but at the same time I don't really agree myself with how jackson is handling it. That's the knicks for you though. Could work out for them.
