Ainge on FSN:
"Yesterday on FSN, in an interview with Danny, he said a meeting did take place, Paul was curious where he stands in the future of the Celtics and Danny told him that he wanted to build around him and that he is still young and believes he is an essential part to the team. He said Paul in on board with the direction the team is going and said that Paul will be with the Celtics for a very long time as long as Paul wants that."
This has been confirmed by numerous people on celticsblog.com
If this was the case, it's excellent news. I know some of you don't like Paul, but I think he is going to have a monster year when he realizes the potential this team has.
Can anyone from New England confirm seeing this on FSN?

This could also be one more smokescreen.

To go to that length just to put up a smoke screen would be a waste of time in my opinion. He didn't say things like this when he smoke screened Toine.
Seems genuine to me. If Pierce was traded after all that Doc and Ainge have said otherwise, no free agents would want to come to Boston.

Well yea you do have a point. Other players might get the impression Danny is a screwjob artist 100%.

Seems genuine to me. If Pierce was traded after all that Doc and Ainge have said otherwise, no free agents would want to come to Boston. If you win, they will come. Most FAs just want the big bucks w/ a chance to win. Loyalty is gone from sports for the most part.

Nobody likes a liar, even money hungry NBA players. Boston has a hard enough time getting FA's as it is. Being dishonest and backhanded isn't something that will help them.

I don't see Pierce going anywhere any time soon. If we really want to over analyze Ainge says as long as that's what Pierce wants. So it's ultimately up to Paul. Pierce is going to start and be a big part of the C's offense so I don't see why he wouldn't want to stay.

I agree with Celtic17. I think theit are three things prospective FAs are looking for:
1) Money.
2) A winning organization.
3)Location.

For some reason, many fa's dont like Boston. That I cannot understand. Seeing us fans saw how hard it was over the years for this team to keep certain guys (fox, wesley, others), its totally true that guys of higher stature don't want to come here. That can change with Danny here. Old management was terrible also. That drove Fox to LA I bet.

I'm pretty sure Fox and Wesley both wanted to resign, but Pitino didn't want them back. We have signed big free agents before, they've just never worked out. DOminique, Pervis, and Barros were all big free agents when we signed them. They just never panned out. And since then, we've never really had any cap room to go after FAs. After watching the contracts handed out this off-season, Ive kind of soured on the FA market. Since the players orig. team can go over the cap to sign them, you basically have to give them a contract so big that the original team thinks its a really bad investment. The only way it pays is if you can get a top flight FA that is actually worth the league max contract.

I feel that this is Ainge's way of putting the ball into Pierce's court and see if Pierce will respond by playing the way that is corresponding with our system. And he has been making an effort to conform to the system.
Ainge is saying all the right things. Which GM, even if he was secretly looking to trade a player, would bad mouth his own player? Ainge is saying the right things, but notice he says at the end that Pierce will be with the organization for a long time, as long as Pierce wants to be. Well, if Pierce goes along with our system, of course he's going to be here a long time--there's no reason to move a player who fits into the system. But if Pierce changes his tune and starts rebelling against the system (or his coach), the only way out of the situation is to ask for a trade. Now, it'll seem that Pierce is the one forcing a trade and Ainge is not looking like a bad guy for trading him.
Either way, Ainge wins. If Pierce fits in with the system, he stays and Ainge keops his end of the bargain. If Pierce rebels, he'll ask to be moved and Ainge will not be the criminal for trading him.

Ainge is good at that Derren. He is doing the same with Walker. I was actually going to say that in my post earlier but forgot. Anyhow you read my mind.

If a gm forces a player out, another gm will not be as eager to go after someone. Most guys who got dealt demanded like Baron and VC. I'm just glad idiot Pitino isn't still here. No fa's would want to come and they didn't then. Danny by leaving this up to Pierce instead of trying to force him out is making other players think that they could be in for something good if they consider Boston.
