The truth is it's really easy to say those things fresh unless it's you who is being wronged. I have disagreements/differences at work all the time. If I decided to throw a hissy fit every time I think I've been wronged, I'd lose my job, just like 99% of the rest of modern society would. I don't think by telling athletes to act like adults is wronging them. I think it's a shame they had to be asked in the first place. But to be fair, the NBA is also at fault for letting it get this far. They should've nipped this in the bud when players started commandeering the refs in the late 80s early 90s.

Too many people these days were raised with this be a man accept it thing imo.. When they don't realize their own idiocy. You accept it. No you accept it. No you...... I truly wonder if some of these people even know what being a mature person is. Listen to the sounds of silence by simon and garfunkel sometime because i still don't think people know how to listen to each other. Silence is like a cancer.
I know it's good to just accept things and walk away though fresh. That's not the point. I had that ingrained in me as a child as well to be smart and knowwhen to walk away. It's more assuming the other person doesn't and forcing that on them. A lot of people do that and try to control things that don't need to be which ultimately creates more issues. IT's like picking at a scab.
Instead of just respecting each other. The players need to respect the league. The league needs to respect it's players.
Yes I sound like a hippy from the 60's. Peace, love, dope? But it's true.

If the officials want the players to respect them maybe they should call the games so they are respected...... It's nto that hard. Call it boths ways and this wouldn't be a problem.
From my experience it's realy difficult to respect someone who doesn't respect you. The fact of the matter is all of these people are adults and tehy are all acting like children.
Maybe the players have a legitament complaint? Maybe the league does as well? Maybe if they worked together these things could be resolved without the BS?
Maybe it's out of control for a reason? And putting a gag order on the players will ultimately create a better solution? Maybe a gag order and calling a T if you flinch wrong, isn't the solution though and is just escalating the issue at hand.
Maybe the league saying to the players no you just shut up is really disrespectful and childish to the people who fans pay to go see play.
I don't pay to go see David Stern and his ugly mug. I go to see Kevin Garnett and he got ejected.
Tommy made a good point how the league survived for 60 some odd years, with the players and officials jsut tolerating each other. Why the sudden change?
The thing is I'm not as opposed to change as that. IF the change is for the better and if both parties agree then it's fine. If they can work something out where both sides are happy then great. I think the way the league is going about it is sketchy though.
IF the league is going to call it both ways and show some discretion then great.

Yes there's a point where those are the rules and you need to shut it and play by them. But who's making the rules? Who really agreed to this rule? The players association had no say?
Once the players association has their say I think this issue will go away. Right now the officials are just going by orders by the league office and the players association hasn't had their say. This is why it's still an issue.
The foul is really on the league here because they basically put a gag order on their players with no say from the players association whatsoever.
Tom Cruise to David STern "Did you order the code red?" David Stern "You are god damn right I did!"
The NBA holds no water.

My only issue w/ T fouls, is where is the certification for referees? Ex: why do I need a undergrad degree, and an MBA to perform my job, when Tim Donahagy becomes a referee because his father was?

I bet the NBADL gets used as a training ground for refs as well.

I just wish they'd call it both ways. The NFL has some rules that protect their stars but they are consistant. That's good officiating if they are going to do that. Watching Dwight Howard close line and elbow our star players last year was a bit disconcerting. If they are going to protect stars be consistant. The league would have a lot more integrity in my eyes if they were.
It's not so much the stopping hte players from whining that bothers me. That's fine. But if they are going to do that how about not giving hte players a reason to argue calls in the first place.

The one thing that bugs me about football is how shoddily the ball is spotted. The refs do a great job, but leaving it up to a dude on the field puts them in a very tough spot. It should be done up in a booth by refs that can watch replays. I also think the NFL is way too lax with the time clock. Early on it's not too big of a deal, but in the last six minutes of each half it should be exact. So many times you see 2-3 seconds go off the clock after the whistle is blown, or sometimes they don't start it at the right time and they lose a few seconds that way. Neither of them are any egregious, but those two things have always bugged me.
On thing I love about NFL refereeing is instant replay. I dont care if it takes a couple of minutes, just get it right.

Thats true but as a ref its hard to spot a ball at the bottom of a pile and you dont wanna keep having to check the replay to see if its past the marker yet. Hard to spot the ball that way but overall its not a big issue. And I agree the 2-3 seconds that go off after a play is whistled dead also bugs me especially 2-3 seconds can mean the difference between time for another play to try move the ball down the field and then a field goal, or only time for a field goal. But yeah overall the NFL refs do a better job than any other refs in any other sports. The NBA refs on the other hand are some of the worst and now they won't let you argue at all which in a way, is saying that they're right and you're wrong and you should just shut up..at least in the NFL, they review it in the booth and refs can challenge twice and if they challenge it twice right, they get a third challenge..its far fairer to the players thats why you dont see many of them constantly arguing with refs at all. Well I mean there is the game clock thats still running but overall, more players will hardly argue with ref calls in the NFL.

Heinsohn had the best point imo that the nba has been great for years. Why water it down? The players and officials have just kind of tolerated each other. Money sucks because they are trying to protect their investments and money. That's what this is about. It's a business. But unfortunately sports suffer because of it.
It gets watered down and becomes a product and processed. You ever notice when something new first comes out its great. It has its flaws and its bumps but its great. When things start going mainstream and get gobbled up by these money grubbing idiots it gets watered down.
Where'd johnny most when we need him? That's my theory. That's why i posted that. That's great stuff and what differentiates the towns.
We are becoming a socialist society, where everything is decided in court rooms by people trying to rob your souls, and its really lame and not what this country was built on.
People trying to control things and control the masses. (censored) them.

I can't wait till they ask a player about a call or the refs or a tech or anything and the player is like "I - am - a -robot. I - have - no - opinions. I - have no feelings. Does not compute. Does not compute. Does not compute."
