CSN-NE has posted that the Celtics have assigned JR Giddens to the D-League. www.csnne.com/pages/landing_celtics?Celtics-assign-JR-Giddens-to-Maine-Red-C=1&blockID=166848&feedID=3945This is interesting. The first part of the year, it was Walker who was sent to the D League and Giddens got the early short stints on the court. Now, Giddens is on his way to Maine and it was Walker who was in the game vs the Pistons. It's hard to figure out where these two guys stand with the team, especially since the Celtics didn't pick up JR's option and word is, he was offered to NY for Nate. But then, it was JR who got the start and playing time when Pierce was out. Curiouser and Curiouser.

You can't read anything into this beyond the team wanting to get Giddens some playing time. I don't see this as a demotion.

Agreed. Rather see him get some time in Maine than perfecting his hi-five technique in Boston.

Well I saw Giddens laughing it up with someone with less than a minute left in Wednesday's loss, which is never a good thing. At a preseason game I was at I also saw Giddens not paying attention in the huddle. Not saying that the laughing incident on Wednesday caused the demotion... just pointing it out. Interesting to read on the Globe's Celtics Blog that Gary Washburn was making the case that it's not fair to send Giddens down and pointing out how statistically he's outperformed Scalabrine. Seemed odd for a beat guy to go there. Ok I'm making no sense. Half asleep.

It's also interesting to note that apparently it was Giddens who was proposed to be sent to NY for Nate Robinson. Maybe the team had him playing to showcase him. Remember when he even started in a game? Wasn't it around the time Robinson was in D'Antoni's doghouse? Maybe NY has said NO to this proposal and the team is back to demoting Giddens... And finally, who else thinks there's a chance that he is cut if he is not traded before the deadline?
