Agreed. That should be Doc's strategy. Last 2 minutes, Rondo can be playmaker..unless hes running a very hot hand and has a totally open jump shot that isn't a 3, then he should take it. But if hes trying to force a lay up and the opponent knows hes a bad FT shooter, they'll foul him and either he needs to learn to make them or he readjusts and playmakes for others.

now do you realize what I'm saying that Rondo will never be a star, he can make a triple double in 3 quarters if he wants to, even in one half, but that worth nothing if hr can't win you a game... end of story. When your best option in offense is out, you need from him to step up and take over and win it. He played a great game like always do, and when you need him to make it as a must do = FAIL. How the hell can he shoot 2/3 from the line in the game and when he must score he missed two, I'll tell you how... THE GAME DEPENDS ON HIS FREE THROWS, and he knew it, he (censored) his pants and do what he always do, yeah this time was free throws, some other time is missed shot, or just turnover, but everytime when you need him he (censored) up, YOU CAN'T SAY IT BETTER, he can play great all game, but you never can put the game in his hands, and that's why he will NEVER BE A STAR, no matter what stat machine he is I disagree. Blaming this game on Rondo isn't fair. Pierce has missed FT's at end of games as well. Shaq has missed FT's at end of games. I believe Bill Russell wasn't an ace FT shooter either. There's more to being a star than shooting. You can be the defensive anchor (ie. Russell, Howard) or the team's engine (ie Kidd, Rondo). Just my opinion. I don't have huge problems with blaming it on Rondo. If he had hit the fts people would say he had won us the game so I don't mind saying he lost the game. I also don't mind saying Buckner lost the Sox game 6. I do mind when people say he lost the Series because there was a game 7. But still.

If you are going to blame this game on a player, or players, I would look at....Rasheed.
Seeing him in person makes me appreciate his talent that much more. He is long, a very good athlete, with nice touch around the basket, and good defensive skills. But I don't get the sense he is as focused or serious as he could be. Watching warm-ups, you see the likes of KG and Ray, polished vets, go to their spots and practice shot after shot. Meanwhile, Sheed plays around, shoots some 3s left-handed, talks to the Clipper coaches.
Our second to last possession, up by 3, and any kind of score basically seals the win. So why does Rasheed take a 3 from the corner? That is THE last shot we should take in that situation. At the same time, when Sheed is in the post, good things usually happen. He is a good shooter from 12 feet in, good passer, and fairly good offensive rebounder. He sometimes draws a double team when shooting from the post, leaving say Davis open for an offensive rebound on a miss. Sheed has a lot of talent, even at this age, but we are not getting the most out of him.
Meanwhile, on our last possession, with no one open, Rondo took it to the basket, drove hard and got the foul. No one else on the team, save Pierce, could have made that play. In addition, Rondo was aggressive all night, beating Baron Davis off the dribble, leading whatever fast break we had, creating plays for others, and was probably our best player in this game.
So while in general I blame the team, even the coaches for this loss, if I look to individuals, I think Sheed let us down. At the same time, I don't think it's the end of the world - but we just have to stop letting games like this slip by us.

The reason games like this concern me is that there is a danger to "turning it on when you need to." After their first (and ONLY) Championship, 'Sheed's Pistons used to say "if it isn't rough, it isn't right" because they would have to get into trouble in a playoff series before they played their best basketball. The result was, they never won another title because eventually they ran into a team that they couldn't dig them selves out of a whole against (like Shaq and Wade's Heat, or the Cavs, when LeBron single-handedly beat them). It almost happened to us in 2008 when we couldn't win on the road to save our lives in the first two rounds, and survived a tight game 7 vs Cleveland. If you keep playing with fire, relying on being able to "flip a switch" at the right time, you WILL get burned. This team has too narrow a window to risk getting burned and missing out on a championship -- especially with formidable teams like the Cavs, Magic, Hawks and Lakers lurking about. We need to develop better focus and maintaining it consistently if we want to achieve more than "one and done" status. IMO, you don't avoid burnout by taking games off, you avoid burnout by using your depth and spreading the work load around. We need to be much better mentally by the time the season is over.

If you look at any team that's won the title I bet you find a few inexplicable losses to bad teams during the regular season. (I know it happened with the 86 Celtics.) It's just a fact of NBA life. You can't be up and focused for every game. We may not like it, and it may drive us crazy, but it's always been the case and always will be.
Before people read too much (too late for Birdie who already has his mind made up) into a couple of missed FTs, let's remember that Pierce has had his issues in the past with 4th quarter FTs.

True every team has their share of freak losses but this wasn't one of those, we had a bad day and they had their best day games..it was more of a we had a bad day, they had a bad day but because we couldn't get ourselves over that hump, we lost. Did anyone bother to tell Sheed to stop taking shots? Or to tell Doc that maybe he should have come up with other plays besides having Rondo drive to the basket? This was one of those very winnable games..What it does, is reflect how we failed to execute down the stretch. When the 86 Celtics lost their own home game to Portland at home, it was by a score of 121-103..Not some 2 point or 1 point difference. Anyway..regular season games only matter as far as playoff standings...if we truly are as good a road team as our road record shows, then regular season losses may not matter as much.

Between Rondo's shooting problems and Docs Brain Farts we're going to have games like this maybe 1 out of 15. Rondo has to get his foul shooting squared away before the Playoffs.

And maybe that's why he isn't going to pull Rondo in these situations now. You can't expect a guy to learn something if he doesn't get to practice them in game situations.

Agreed; making Rondo look over his shoulders late in the game isn't going to help him. We have committed to him long-term and need to allow him to grow (we forget how young he still is). Pierce has become a more efficient player under Doc, I believe Rondo will too given time.

Poor loss. To the "paper" Clips? BOS tends to play to the level of their opponent.
