On second look, it's amazing how far athletes have come. Put Lebron in the middle of that and they would think he was some sort of alien from another planet. Is it something in the water? Is it just evolution? I tend to think it's performance enhancing drugs...

I think most of it is just nutrition and lifting weights. Back then your coach would've dropkicked you if he found out you were lifting weights. That was taboo for basketball players. And back then guys weren't thinking about nutrition at all. Hell, Jerry West used to smoke during breaks in the action.
Speaking of West, I would've liked to have seen him in his prime. He was supposed to be out of this world.

Good stuff! KP That was the team that hooked me on the Celtics.

There is one of my favorite sports quotes of all time on this video. It comes when Russell is talking about what he said to his teammates before the game. It went something like, "There's a lot of things going on, but one thing that cannot go on, the Lakers cannot beat us. It's not something that can happen. They just can't beat us." www.youtube.com/watch?v=1U_joRPqWts

Here's a little something from our old friend Kevin McHale: www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlSZC4TAYVcMan was he something else. Dude's arms seemed to go for miles. Had to make you feel just hopeless as a defender. Also, the guy that made this video (KBlaze) always puts out quality stuff.

Yeah..atheletes during that era used to be on crack..plus their pay was so low that they usually found another job while playing basketball. We sure have come a long way...heck if Lebron was put in that era, lets just say that we would be talking about Lebron's 200 point record rather than Wilt's 100. But then Lebron was never much of a ball hogger...so lets put a Jordan in his prime in that era...then WOW you're talking about unbeatable records forever.
Anyway in terms of perfect body specimen, I'd have to disagree about Lebron...David Robinson in my opinion, looked like he belonged on the cover of a men's fitness magazine every single season. The guy was built like how the Greeks used to carve their sculptures...First time I saw him, I was like... "holy (censored)......."

Yeah..atheletes during that era used to be on crack..plus their pay was so low that they usually found another job while playing basketball. I think you may be getting your eras mixed up. Some players in the late 70s through the late 80s were abusing cocaine, but they definitely didn't have to work second jobs back then. Second jobs were more of a product of 50s/60s NBA life.

So this started out as a Celtics youtube thread, but I've got share more youtube goodness on here, even if it isn't Celtics related. John Starks www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRVr10i28KwReally good vid. Dude's story is kinda inspiring. And man, did he get after it. No one was gonna call him out for being lazy. Larry Nance www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQP1zyift9wThis guy's ability to get up was incredible. The dunk of Kareem at 1:36 is great. And by all accounts he was one of the league's good guys. Wish I couldve seen him in his prime. Robert Pack www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9MMZzzbufQI can't think if any other 6 footer that was that aggressive finishing around the rim. Too bad he was always hurt. Top ten dunks of 94-95 www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxSFF36CAkcAll sorts of awesome on this one: #9- The replay is what makes it. Elliot is in the clouds on that one. #8- A Matt Fish sighting! #6- The announcers on this one make it great. #4 and #5- Makes me nostalgic for the days of everyone dunking on Bradley. To his credit, he toughened up towards the end of his career. If you went strong at him in his Dallas days, he'd make you pay for it. #3- Rodney Rogers putback. It's the reason I found this video. I had searched for this dunk before to no avail. It's still the greatest dunk I've ever seen while watching a game. This was some random late-season saturday afternoon game that was on NBC. The sound that dunk made was incredible. It was also on one of these lazy Saturday afternoon games that I saw Glen Rice go berserk and score 56 points against some unfortunate team. Still the greatest shooting display I've ever seen.

Corey Brewer dunks on Derek Fisher: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxfb3pTm2HwSomeone lets out a weird noise at the peak of the dunk. I dunno if it's Brewer letting out a primal scream, or Fisher yelping at the realization that the footage of him getting sonned by Brewer is gonna live forever on the internet.
