Key Matchups
[image] vs [image]
Rajon Rondo vs Rodney Stuckey
Stuckey is a scoring PG and so Rondo will need to defend him well. Stuckey has a height advantage but Rondo has a quickness advantage. Both are good rebounding guards.

[image] vs [image]
Kevin Garnett vs Austin Daye
Kevin Garnett will need to use his wiley veteran tactics and intimidation factor to dominate the Pistons' 2nd year player.

GameNotes
Last Season: Celtics won the series 2‐1. Rajon Rondo plays well against the Pistons, averaging 13.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 3.33 steals in the three contests. Rodney Stuckey led the Pistons with 20.0 and an average of 7.0 rebounds per game.

Both teams should be well rested as the Celtics have been off since Friday and the Pistons have been off since Saturday. Both teams are playing in the first of back to back games with the Celtics facing the Bucks on Tuesday while Detroit moves on to Atlanta.

At this point, it isn't sure if either O'Neal can play for the Celtics. If neither can go, it's possible that Big Baby will start at center against Big Ben. That should be fun to watch.

Keys to the Game
Take Care of the Ball - The Celtics are still turning the ball over too much. They must cut down on the turnovers and take better care of the ball.

Play 48 Minutes - The Celtics are getting into the habit of slow starts and sluggish endings. They have to play all 4 quarters.

Defense - The Celtics must get back to their defense first style.

X-Factor
Injuries
If both O'Neals are out, that makes the Celtics a bit thin up front. The Celtics will need to depend on Semih Erden or Luke Harangody to give them quality minutes.

that T on Big Baby was ridiculous. He was running in the other direction. He didn't complain or talk to the ref. Unlike LeBron who got to complain to the ref all the way down the court. Tommy just said it... if they would enforce these rules equitably it would be one thing but they pick and choose who they want to call them on.

nice run by jermaine. We still have a few players who aren't fully in gear yet. Jermaine looks good though.

Kg, pierce and ray are scoring like the old days and rondo is assisting.

These aren't the same pistons which helps.

Rondo broke the record for assists through the first 4 games of the season with a total of 67.

The old record was 65 and was held by Magic and Stockton.

If Rondo can keep up this pace of 15-16 assists a night which I know is going to be hard to do, he can break the all time single season assists record.

12-14 would be pushing it, yet still huge. I guess it comes down to guys hitting their shots.

I don't think the C's play a quick enough pace for Rondo to break the all-time record.

Its not so much the pace as it is them sinking their shots. Stockton had Malone who was basically a very high FG% player with over.516% FG lifetime which helped. Rondo on the other hand has a rejuvenated KG whose playing very well in the post, Big Baby who runs the floor with him for easy baskets, and the fact that Ray and Pierce are active in their movements on the court always getting easy looks also helps. Barring any injuries or massive dips in production from their starters, I think Rondo could easily get 10 a night with 14 or more being a reasonable target on nights when someone has the hot hand.

The number I liked the most about Rondo's game was ZERO (turnovers). We had too many TO during the first 3 games...

Yep although I don't expect Rondo to keep his turnovers down, I can live with 4-5 each game..after all hes playing point and thats one of the hardest positions to have zero turnovers.

I agree with Fresh that pace (less possessions) don't allow for optimal record-breaking conditions but he can still give it a good run. Guys got to hit their shots but if Rondo is as brilliant as hyped then he's going to give these guys easy looks, and obviously we're witnessing this so far.

On a side note I really liked what I saw from Semih. I know it was not much, but I didn't expect anything from this guy and now I feel like he can contribute down the road. Who knows with a little more polish he can be a major part of the rebuild effort.
