Key Matchups
[image] vs [image]
Kevin Garnett vs Amar'e Stoudamire
This is a good matchup between two of the top power forwards in the league. KG must limit Amar'e's scoring, but more importantly, he also has to limit him on the glass.

[image] vs [image]
Rajon Rondo vs Raymond Felton
As Rondo goes so go the Celtics. He needs to be aggressive and keep the offense moving. D'Antoni likes his team to get up and down the court quickly. If Rondo can prevent Felton from bringing the ball up quickly it will go a long way toward slowing down the Knicks.

Key off the Bench

Game Notes
This is the 1st of 4 meetings between these two teams. Both teams had Thursday off. The Knicks are playing in the first game of a back to back set with their home opener on Saturday. The Celtics won't play again until Tuesday. Last year, the Celtics won the series 3-1 vs the Knicks. The Celtics also won both of their meetings in the preseason.

The Celtics will be at home and looking to bounce back from their loss to the Cavaliers while the Knicks will be looking to build momentum after a win in their first game over the Toronto Raptors. The Celtics shouldn't make the same mistake twice in a row and should not take the Knicks for granted.

If we lose this one, Danny should break up the team now and build for the future. In fact after beating Miami in front of a record televised crowd, is there any real way to top it?

Haha great team pics C17. I should keep track of the best team pics over the years. It's a sign of how heavily marketed the NBA is when there seems to be a limitless supply of products for you to use in these matchup threads.

Jermaine O'Neal inactive for tonight. Harangody moves on to the active roster.

Gody would actually do well against the Knicks. Energy guy with hustle and can run up and down the court in a quick paced game. Plus the Knicks aren't much bigger than him in terms of a size advantage.

Wow Rondo is really tearing up the assists in each game. Any chance he breaks Stockton's record? Right now as it stands the record is over 1,100 assists in a season so Rondo would need to keep dumping at least 14-15 assists a night. Does he stand a chance?

We're having a hard time shaking off this team -- 7 pt game after 3 quarters. Hopefully, we close this out better than we did last game.

If I'm not wrong, Rondo just broke his career high in assists and still has a whole 4th quarter to go.

And BBD seems to have found his "role" on the team. Third straight game of at least 13 off the bench.

Unless my research is wrong or the game stats are wrong, Rondo not only has a triple double but is also tied for 7th all time with 24 rebounds, last done by Ramon Sessions in 2008..if he only had one more he would be tied with Jason Kidd who did it most recently and had 25 in 1996.

We won, but never really shook off the Knicks. Glad to see Garnet rebounding well and Davis being a consistent contributor, but IMO we need to do a better job of closing games out.

Hmmm I dont know who was more impressive. Pierce with his clutch FTs and icy veins or Rondo with his 24 assists..I mean in retrospect Pierce won it late for us but Rondo single handedly accounted for at least 48 points through his assists and also 10 points of his own so thats 58 points which means Rondo was more than 50% of our offense tonight.

Rondo is absolutely amazing. But when you think about his 24 assists, the guys have to make the shots and they were making them last night. I agree that the next wave could be anchored by Pierce, Rondo and Baby. I wouldn't leave Perk out of that. He is going to come back better. He has been making 300 free throws a day and has been working on his jumper and post offense during his rehab. He has also lost 10 pounds and is aiming for more before he comes back.

Good win. They should have won by more but still they didn't fold at the end. Great play by Quisy to block the shot and get the ball at the end. I like what I have seen from him this season.
