Key Matchups
[image] vs[image]
Rajon Rondo vs George Hill
With Parker out, Hill has been called on to run the team and has been doing a good job. Rondo has been on a tear in recent games and hopefully he will continue his aggressive play in this game.

[image] vs[image]
Kevin Garnett vs Tim Duncan
This is a matchup of the two best power forwards in the league. Both have slowed a bit but they are both still formidable foes. Both have been playing very well in recent games and so this should be a fun matchup to watch.

Honorable Mention
Ray Allen vs Manu Ginobili
Ginobili is very important to the Spurs offense, especially with Parker out. In their last game, a win over the Cavs, one of the key reasons for the win was Ginobili outplaying LeBron. Ray will need to slow Ginobili down while continuing his own hot shooting.

Game Notes
 The Spurs and Celtics split the season series 1-1 during the 2008-09 season
 Ray Allen led the Celtics with 18.5 points per game last season against San Antonio
 Tim Duncan led the Spurs with 19.0 points and 11.0 rebounds against the Celtics last year
 The C’s are 5-6 against the Spurs since the 2004-05 season
 The Celtics are leading 38-37 all-time in the season series with the Celtics 19-18 at home

The Celtics have won their last 5 home games and are now 1 game ahead of the Hawks for the 3rd place and 3.5 games behind the Magic for the second spot in the East. The Spurs are sitting in the 7th spot in the West a game behind the Thunder and just half game in front of Portland for the pleasure of meeting the Lakers in the first round.

Both teams are 7-3 in their last 10 games. San Antonio has been average away from home, going just 17-17 on the road while the Celtics are 23-12 at the Garden and have won their last 5 games there. The Celtics are going for their 3rd straight win while the Spurs are going for 2 in a row.

In December, the Celtics won their fourth straight game in San Antonio, a feat they had not accomplished in nearly 20 years. Kevin Garnett led the C’s offensive output with 20 points while Rajon Rondo added another double-double with 12 points and 12 assists. The Celtics brought their tough D for the third straight night, limiting the Spurs to just 42% from the field and 12.5% from beyond the arc. The Spurs last lead of the game came with 9:54 remaining in the first quarter with the score 4-2. The Spurs were led by rookie DeJuan Blair and his 18 points and 11 boards off the bench while Tim Duncan added 16 points and 15 boards.

The Celtics will more than likely be playing without Kendrick Perkins for the second straight game and if so, the Celtics will need to get some effort out of Rasheed Wallace.

Keys to the Game
Defense - The Celtics appear to have returned to their defensive roots. They need to continue to play the swarming team defense that we have come to know and love.

Focus
The Celtics have also regained their focus when playing at home, having won their last 5 games at the Garden. They need to continue to focus on team play and establish home dominance once again.

Rebound
The Spurs are a good rebounding team and the Celtics need to concentrate on crashing the boards. The Celtics have been doing much better at this in recent games and need to continue to put out the effort on the boards. By dominating the boards, the Celtics can prevent put backs and second chance points.

Be Aggressive When the Celtics are aggressive in going after loose balls, taking the ball to the hoop and playing in your face defense, they are very tough to beat. When they get lazy and allow teams to beat them to loose balls and rebounds and when they settle for jumpers and don't go to the basket, they are very beatable. They must stay aggressive.

Play 48 Minutes The Celtics let a big lead slip once again against the Kings. Of course, this time when the starters returned, they held the Kings at bay, but against a better team, they may not have been able to. Both the starters and especially the bench must come out strong and play hard without letting up.

I think the key here is Ginobili. He is single handedly carrying the Spurs in their past few games. Duncan looks really old and his jump shots aren't falling for him.

Can you imagine some guy coming into a bar with both hands filled with rings? Bill Russell entering a Boston bar with both hands all "ring-ed" up. That would be just awesome to look at. And yeah can't let the Lakers catch us which is why I'm rooting so hard for the Nuggets to beat em because at least if we do lose, the Lakers still won't be able to get one more.

Definitely impressive. He's got more rings than fingers. He'd have to wear 2 rings on one finger. Don't forget that Tommy has 10 rings also.

If the Celtics don't win, I'll root for anyone but the Lakers.

disappointing loss. Not only a loss but utter domination. We totally did the vanishing act in the second half AGAIN. Not to mention heavily outrebounded, and our shots just weren't falling..

Only highlight of the night was a 6 turnover game from us. Low turnovers are nice..but not so much if we still lose.

Worst stat of the night. 36.2% FG, 7.1% 3point

Heartening stat of the night : 5-5 shooting by Shelden, contributing 11 points and 1 rebound. Hope Doc gives him more time because he deserves it.

KG got heavy minutes tonight (35 mintues) not too good for a guy whose trying to get healthy and 100%.

Oh well..another disappointing game for the home crowd.

Bad loss. They let Ginobile dominate for a SG, being a PG. Too many 3-pointers. Nice game by S Williams.

When it comes to Russell, I thought I read that he doesn't actually have 11 rings. I thought that a couple of years they gave out cuff links or something like that.

Just when you think this team has turned the corner... :o

I guess thumping all the crappy teams lulled them into a false sense of security. This team has got to realise they have to give maximum effort if they are going to beat the good teams at home, not just on the road.

What a PATHETIC performance! I am so sick of seeing this team get torn apart in the second half in their own building. We have ZERO home court advantage. Assuming we play well on the road and steal a road game in the playoffs, we'll just give it back again by losing at home. To win the title, barring any huge upsets, we will have to beat Orlando, Cleveland and LA, without having home court in either series. I just can't see that happening, not when we are bound to lose at least one home game.

The Spurs have struggled on the road this year -- except of course when they play us. We must be the absolute worse second half team in the league. Even the short-handed Sacramento Kings out played us in the third and fourth quarters, and lets not forget how the Grizzlies embarassed us. And tonight we were absolutely humiliated once again on our home court. The only good thing about tonight's game is that I taped it, then watched it, so I spared myself having to sit through the fourth quarter.

What can I say, this team was not worth staying up late to watch.

Actually we aren't too bad after the All-Star break. 23 games played, 8 losses, only 1 of those losses to a sub par team (the Nets), the rest were all to playoff bound teams. I mean we have had losses but consider this. The Lakers for all their might and power in the West, have also been pretty bad after the All-Star break. They've played 19 games, and lost 6 and all 6 of their losses have also been to playoff bound teams. I know its hard to watch our team get torn apart especially at home but we're not exactly playing too badly..I'd rather this month than the month of January where we had 8 losses in that month alone. Overall, after Christmas, our record does look dreadful but considering that Pierce has mentioned he got his knee drained again after the All-Star break and that he feels much better now, I think we've shown some improvements.

Plus lets not talk as if the Spurs are the Timberwolves or the Nets. They do have talent (Hill/Blair) and they have Ginobili who is as hot a scorer as any in the league right now. Defensively we weren't too bad. We didn't give up over 100 points and although they won, its not our defense that lost us the game but our offense. There will be games where our shots just won't drop..ask the Lakers who got whipped by the Thunder for even more just a coupla days ago. Or the Mavs who also got whipped this season..

In fact, based on our performance since the All-Star break, I have regained quite alot of hope in our title chances. I expect to see more losses in our remaining games since they don't matter much anymore but I do hope to see some improvements from KG offensively and from our bench. If our bench shows any signs of life, we'll be set for the playoffs. Home or away, we're a tough opponent for any team.

This team is better than average quality. That's it. Nothing special this season. Lack of enthusiasm, injuries and a sucky bench. They have played well the last 23 games but not good enough to go deep into the playoffs IMHO.

Flat, flat, flat. Is there going to be ANY home court advantage for this team in this playoffs?

Note: It's actually Sam Jones, not Heinsohn, who has 10 rings. Tommy retired after his 8th.
