vs ![[image] [image]](http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/portland/BRoyPor.jpg) Ray Allen vs Jarryd Bayless The Blazers just announced that Roy will not be with the team when they play Boston. They will start Jarryd Bayless in his place. This matchup becomes more key for the Celtics as hopefully not having to guard Roy will free Ray up to get back on track offensively. (I know that the picture is still Roy but couldn't find a picture that size of Bayless)
vs ![[image] [image]](http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/portland/AlridgePor.jpg) Kevin Garnett vs LaMarcus Aldridge I am going by faith that we will see Kevin Garnett in this game. Just having KG back on the floor and on the bench will hopefully be enough to change the attitude that has invaded this team in recent games.
Game Notes: • The Celtics split the season series with the Blazers 1-1 during the 2008-09 season • Paul Pierce led the Celtics with 20.5 points per game last season • LaMarcus Aldridge averaged 16.5 points per game against the Celtics last season • The C’s are 8-2 against Portland since the 2004-05 season • The Celtics are leading the all-time series 56-39 with the Celtics 31-15 at home
The Celtics won't get much sympathy from the Blazers if they complain about their injuries. The Blazers have been hit with one injury after another and come into this game with 4 key players out and their best player as a game time decision. In spite of all their injuries, the Blazers have been playing very good ball and have built a respectable 26-17 record.
The Celtics are expecting to get a boost this game from the return of Kevin Garnett. He went through a full practice on Tuesday and suffered no soreness or problems the day after so he is expected to return for this game. On the other side, Brandon Roy is questionable with a hamstring injury he suffered on Wednesday in their win over the Sixers.
The Celtics' home court hasn't exactly been an advantage for them this season as they have more losses at home than they do on the road. Friday nights at home have been particularly rough for this team. Hopefully after having lost their 3rd home game in a row and 6 of their last 10 games overall, the team has regrouped and will come into this game focused. The return of KG should help their focus as well.
UPDATE: Roy left the team to return home for another opinion. He will not play against the Celtics. Not sure who will start in his place.
Keys to the Game Play 48 Minutes The Celtics have been giving up big leads recently. The third quarter used to be their time to put other teams away but recently, the Celtics have been the team getting put away in the third quarter. They must maintain their focus in the second half of games.
Defense The Celtics have been losing their defensive focus and are playing defense in spurts. They seem to forget all about defense in the 3rd and 4th quarters as evidenced by the fact that they allowed Dallas to shoot over 80% in the 3rd quarter.
Rebound The Celtics have been getting out-rebounded in their recent losses. Much of rebounding is effort and focus and the Celtics have shown little of either in recent games. They have to grab the rebounds to prevent fast breaks and second chance points.
Focus Many of the Celtics problems are the result of a lack of focus. Whether they are blaming injuries or whatever, they haven't been following the game plan. There has been way too much individual play and not enough team play. They must get back to ubuntu and focus on playing as a team once again on both ends of the court.
X-Factor Players Coming and Going The X Factor in this game will be whether KG does indeed play and whether Brandon Roy will be able to play as well.

Its gonna be very tough. Portland plays excellent small ball. The reason they play so well against the Lakers is because the Laker's big men barely affect them on the offensive end of things. If these guys get hot, those big men will be rendered useless down low while they drill you from everywhere on the court. Andre Miller is the main guy who will be driving to the hoop for them, but they also have guys like Bayless as well. Their lack of big men has allowed them to developed their smallball style and these guys are gonna be a very tough match for us. We'll need quick rotation and we must NOT leave them open. Steve Blake will punish us if we leave him open on the sides for a 3..same with nearly every other player they have. Lets not forget that they even have Rudy back now. Plus we'll have to see how LaMarcus gets dealt with because this kid is an All-Star in the making.

Roy to miss next two games 5:32PM ET Brandon Roy | Trail Blazers Top Email
Brandon Roy has been suffering from a strained right hamstring. He missed the first few games on the Blazers' current road trip, but convinced the training staff he was well enough to play against the 76ers. He tweaked the hamstring again last night and will probably miss the next two games.
"Odds are high that I'll miss the next two (games) just because we want to be smart with (the injury)," Roy told The Oregonian. "They don't want me to rush right back out there. I'm sure they are going to be a lot more cautious."
Roy will visit a doctor today, but there are no immediate plans for an MRI. _____________________________________________________________________________
Roy may not be playing against us. But that doesn't really mean much considering the Blazers have beaten people without Roy in the lineup.

Ray Allen cold all game, comes up with a big shot in OT. Also good work by Rondo who did a lil bit of everything in a big way. Nice to see KG back..hes definitely a huge improvement on defense for us...For any team to go into OT and not give up 100 points is a great defensive effort.

Have to hand it to the Blazers. They are really banged up and in spite of all the injuries, they come to play every night.
The difference tonight was the attitude, effort and focus. KG brings all that to the team regardless of his stats.

Nice to win, nice to see KG again. However, we were lucky to beat the Roy-less Blazers on our home court. We'll see how things transpire with KG back over the next few weeks. But watching the 4th Q and OT of this game, we just look slow, flat, out of sync, or dare I say old.....

Glad we won, but am a bit concerned that once again we were killed on the boards. We have become a very bad rebounding team. That will have to improve between now and the playoffs.
To emphasize the point, we rank 20th in rebound margin at NEGATIVE .51 per game (per nba.com). When I looked up our past stats on the celtics website, last year we were PLUS 4.5 and in 2007-2008 we were PLUS 3.1. We need to get back to those positive numbers.

We really need to take advantage when KG plays because he isn't going to be around forever. IT's amazing that ray is hte oldest of the big 3 and is really the most healthy. Dude has been playing 40 minutes a night and I trust his health moreso than pierce or kg. Ray looks young and like he can go forever.
It seems like we are going to have to time KG's rest so he can be healthy come playoff time this year. Might not be until next year if ever until he is feeling completely healthy. This might just be the way he is the rest of his career where we have to rest him from time to time, although the human body can do some amazing things. I liked him comparing himself to an old pinto after the game. And Pierce saying he had a datsun 210 as a kid.
