Key Matchups
[image] vs [image]
Rajon Rondo vs Rodney Stuckey
The Pistons have had a lot of problems and questions but one thing is for sure, they see Rodney Stuckey as their point guard of the future. We have seen in many games that as Rondo goes, so go the Celtics. The Celtics need Rondo to be aggressive and to set the tempo the team.

[image] vs [image]
Ray Allen vs Rip Hamilton
Hamilton is one of the few Pistons who remains from the old days. There have been some good battles between these two shooting guards, both of whom are very good at running off screens. Rip is the reason that Ray began wearing the shooting sleeve because 2 years ago in the playoffs, Rip was digging Ray's arm up with his long fingernails. It would really help the Celtics if Ray could get his shot back on track.

Honorable Mention
Rasheed Wallace vs Chris Wilcox
This is Sheed's first game versus his former team. He wouldn't be human if he didn't want to give them a good beat down. Look for Sheed to be motivated in this game.

Game Notes

• Celtics won the season series 3-1 against Detroit in 2008-09
• Paul Pierce led the Celtics with 15.5 points per game last season
• Rip Hamilton averaged 13.5 points per game against the C’s last season
• It marked the second straight year that the Celtics had won the season series and the first time that it had done so since the 1994-95 and 1995-96
seasons
• The Celtics are leading the all-time series 221-121 with the Celtics 106-38 at home

The Pistons have been struggling this season as they rebuild. They signed Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva over the summer but things haven't worked out for them as they hoped. They are hoping to make a splash in the big 2010 free agent marked and are just biding their time until then.

However, the Pistons shouldn't be taken for granted. They are capable of beating some good teams as they have already beaten the Hawks and the Magic. The Celtics must take this team seriously and must come out strong to begin the game and they have to play hard for 48 minutes.

Keys to the Game
Defense
Play 48 minutes
Run the Offense
Attack the Basket

X-Factor Focus - especially on the defensive end.

Alot of history between them and us. Specially now that we have Sheed. We need 100% focus and effort through all four quarters.

As bad as we are playing we're only 1 game out of the ECF standings for home court.

we just can't buy a win or a bucket in crunch time right now. Teams are giving us different looks and headaches. Nice job by Detroit going to a zone but we have to be smarter. Thing is this game I thought we played really hard. We were hustling on the boards and trying to up tempo things. Just contested and bad shots and turnovers. Our offense is really missing something. We are just getting beat down the stretch.

Our offensive and defensive strategy is just so simplistic right now and we aren't executing and are just being beaten to the spot on offense and defense and are very predictable.

Time to mix things up a bit and get our legs back. We are playing gritty but effort only goes so far. We have a bullseye on our backs and every team we play is playing a perfect game and about as well as they possibly can and know how to strategize against us.

Didn't get to watch, but not much seems to be going right. Bench production down: House, TA, and Baby haven't scored much as of late. Starting 5 appear tired and worn out, even if they get a few days between games. Only mid-season, and plenty of time to turn things around, but starting to wonder just what that catalyst will be? Hopefully the return of KG will energize the rest of the guys....

I agree with what Doc said in his post game conference. He said that this team thinks they are better than they are. They get a lead and feel like they can coast through the rest of the game and it just doesn't work that way. They aren't good enough. They were good enough to do that 2 years ago, but not now.

Their struggles are 100% mental right now. Sure Quisy and KG are out, but this team is good enough to beat the Pistons handily without them. They were out rebounded by 10. The surest way to see if a team is working and focused is to look at the rebounds. This team is just not working and they have lost their focus. They can't buy a basket in the second half. Their defense is non existent in the second half. It seems as through each player is trying to do it themselves and have totally forgotten about ubuntu. They must get that mindset back. It may come back with KG, but they shouldn't have to. They need to get their heads back on straight.

Even with this terrible stretch, they still are right up there. We are in second spot in the East 3.5 games behind Cleveland. The Lakers have 4 fewer losses, but they have played only 15 games on the road and lost 6 of those. They are starting an 8 game road trip now and we may catch up to them a bit over that stretch, IF the Celtics can get it together and start playing team ball.

To be honest, I see this trend continuing until Marquis gets back. He is the only spark we have off the bench. As for why we are still in contention, it was because of a strong start to the season. Like said before, we always seem to lose focus after the second half. Really don't know what to say anymore.. Ainge needs to do something to help the starters asap.

Know what. Doc and others keep saying we're good enough to beat teams like Detroit without KG and whoever is missing. We are not good enough without a full healthy team. It remains to be seen if we're good enough with a full compliment. We'll know in the coming weeks. Excuses will only work for so long. I'm not basing this on the skills of the team but the injuries have taken their toll. Older players don't bounce back like young ones.

Our bench right now is weak. We don't have a back up point guard. Eddie is never as effective as a shooter when he has to bring the ball up. Sheed is now with the starters. Baby is still not playing well. And Quisy is out. Doc refuses to give Walker, Giddens and now even Shelden playing time. The bench did like nothing last night. Having KG back will help as it will move Sheed back to the bench, but it still doesn't address the fact that we have no one to run the offense on the second unit. When Eddie runs the offense, we lack his offense which is sorely needed. I agree that we need Quisy back. AND we need a PG.
