Aarghh, not what I wanted to hear. 2 year deal for roughly 1.75 mil.
Good luck Powe, but I'll be rooting against your team.

What is even more hurtful is that Brian Windhorst is reporting that the Celtics tried to re-sign him when they found out about the Cavs contract. It seems as though Danny completely misread the situation. He didn't think anyone would sign Leon while he was rehabbing and figured he would just swoop in and re-sign him when he was healthy again. But, other teams saw this kid's heart and knew what kind of a boost he will bring for the playoffs and went after him.
I can't blame Leon for passing on the Celtics offer after the fact either. He must have been very hurt by the way they just turned their back on him.

I think that once S. WIlliams was signed that pretty much sealed any chance of Powe coming back to the C's. And honestly, I don't blame Ainge on this one. At the time, we had no idea what was going on with Davis. All we had for bigs were Perk, KG, Rasheed, and Veal (of you want to call him that). We needed someone that could play as soon as the season started. Williams provided that. Powe didn't.
But now, thanks to BBD resigning, we have a plethora of bigs. Do we really have room for another big, especially one that can't play center? I'd say if we use our last roster spot, it should be for a point guard.

Maybe Ainge felt powe's injury was significant enough where it's going to be a long road back. We all love leon and if anyone is going to work hard to come back it's him, but it might not be this year for all we know and even if he does he might not be 100%. Cleveland is trying to stick it to us, and it's a gamble but Powe might not really help them this year. I think we are better off with Williams and Ainge made the right call. Williams is a hard worker too and just as talented if not moreso.

I'm so sorry FL........ Once Danny chose Sheldon Williams and got Baby back in the fold, Leon Powe's fate was sealed. I'm happy that Leon will be paid this year by someone to re-hab. I dunno if he will be back in time for the playoffs in 2010, let's hope not to take something out of Cleveland's arsenal.

Sad to see Powe go to our enemy but, it was the right choice by Ainge by not giving him a new contract. His injuries are way too risky to give someone especially you won't be seeing him for another 2 years. Its bad business to invest players who can't help you. I'm glad we gave him the chance to play on ths roster where he absolutely went well and beyond expectations. But, it was a wise choice by management to not pay the luxury tax for someone who will be the shell of his former self.

Cleveland is trying to strengthen their roster at every spot. But our frontcourt is still deeper.
They can only throw Shaq, Big Z, and Anderson Varejao at us (Powe won't be ready for a good part of the season).
We can fire back with KG, Perk, Rasheed, Big Baby, and Shelden Williams (and Scalabrine--for good measure).
We lost out on Powe, but Ainge still did a heck of a job by strengthening a major weakness for us (remember last year, Mikki Moore was a backup--this year we have Rasheed).

Good for Powe. I'll be rooting for him to do well but not his team in general when and if he returns. I don't think he'll match up well with our bigs overall but you never know with Leon.

This stinks for sure, but Big baby proved to be a better offensive force in the playoffs. That mid-range jumper really impressed me. I love Leon, but his offensive game is limited. Davis at 6'8 has that wide body can shoot and can play with his back to the basket. Williams can be an adequate replacement. Hopefully KG can bring some intensity out of williams. If he can score a few garbage points and grab some borads i'll be satisfied..

Yeah I dont really see Powe biting us in the butt. We have a ton of bigs where it's not going to be powe who beats us. I'd rather have Powe than Scal though. Scal and TA's contracts are a year too long where we might ahve been able to do better than them, but they also serve a purpose and clear cap room.
It really comes down to would you rather Sheldon or Powe? Like fresh said we need frontcourt depth not an injured player. Sheldon gets a bad wrap because he was drafted so high when he's really a comparable player to leon. If he was drafted where leon was he'd be just as beloved. He actually brings other things Leon doesnt and I'm excited to have him. He might be better than Leon. Both he an LEon are kind of stiffs offesnively and hardworking defensive minded players. Cliff Ray will do wonders with Sheldon imo.

If the rumor that Powe wanted to stay East to stick it to BOS, 3-years of credibility will be thrown away.
