Hi guys I m new here and I was wondering if we could have done better this off season because we got older instead of younger lol.Anyways, dont get me wrong I LOVE the celtics and our new addictions of the o'neal bros,von,dw13 and semih but couldn't we get Big Ben(Ben wallace) to join instead of Shaq and for the same money but better D by Big ben,but I gotta say size matters and Shaq is 7'1 while Big Ben is 6'9 anyways what do you guys think? Plus why did we sign back daniels,I would take scal over him anyday lol Btw where is michael finley? anyways what do you guys think? Attachments:

I think it's close, but I'd shaq the nod with his ability to score in the post. You can't beat either of them for the vet minimum.

You make some good points. I was sort of hoping we'd go younger and more athletic, but like Perkins was saying having vets with a chip on their shoulder can help too. I think we tried to fill out bench with well rounded guys who can score and make an impact. Our offense went through spurts last year where our age showed. having several guys who know what they are doing, may take some of the load off. Shaq's free throws to go with Rondo still scare me a bit. Hopefully Rondo is working on his free throw shooting. If he can get over 70% that would help.

Our window is microscopically small, but I think we have enough mustard in the jar to contend this year (and maybe, just maybe, have a shot next year).
Big Ben has slipped quite a bit from his high pedestal as one of the most intimidating defensive presence in the league. So has Shaq for that matter, but Shaq's mass and brute strength is still there--no one in the league can keep Shaq from backing his way into the paint.
I think Jermaine and Shaq will give us additional scoring opportunities from the 5, and they are both guys who can rebound. One on one defense might not be as good as Perk's, but we'll see how they fare.

I guess because Scal was doing much worse than Daniels. But then again I'd take neither of them if I had a choice. They're both bench warmers who won't really see any meaningful minutes anyway. As for Finley, we don't need him back. He was slow and a huge defensive liability because he couldn't guard anyone.

It just goes to show that many people are not completely sold on our bench help at the wings.
I personally think we need a good defensive 3 who can play lots of minutes. For all I care, Delonte and Marquis can rotate and share minutes at the 2; but I want a real 3 who can defend well.

I know hes older but he is still a very good defensive player. Or maybe even Posey because at least Posey can defend better than Marquis.

What's the story on Posey? Was he rumored to be getting cut from the Hornets?
Yeah, I'd take Posey, even if it means costing us some $$.

The closer we get to opening night, the more I'm thinking that Posey may be done. He could be had for pretty much nothing, but no one is biting. I'm thinking his days of being a premium SF defender are done.

To be honest, I don't think anyone considered Posey to be a premium SF (I'm assuming you mean a premium bench SF, right?).
When he won a championship with MIA, he became more attractive, but if you look at how much we were paying him, it wasn't anywhere near top dollar--it was relatively cheap.
Then when he won with us, his stock improved more, but NOR had to overpay him in order to reel him in--but even that wasn't big contract.
I don't think there were ever a lot of suitors after him.
But I am curious to know how much of his game is gone since we last saw him--is he just a tad slower, or are we talking about a whole step that he's lost?

My bad, I meant "premium SF defender." I have fixed my blunder for all future readings.

Ahh, but I'd still take him. He's a hard nosed player, can still play some defense, and can hit three's.

And the way his shooting %s are trending, I wouldn't count on his three point shot being there this season.

Maybe he was unmotivated, with NOR not being contenders. All it takes is for him to taste another championship, and the lion inside him will start roaring again.
Well, if not Posey, then yeah, I'd like to see if we can swing a trade for Shane Battier. Or it would be nice if Tony Gaffney is actually a backup caliber defender.
